Post exposure prophylaxis
- Postexposure antibiotic prophylaxis is needed for individuals with close contact to a person with pertussis.
- Administration of postexposure therapy to asymptomatic contacts of index patient within 21 days of onset of cough can prevent symptomatic infection.
