Overview
Underlying structural heart disease is generally absent. Often, there is no precipitant of an episode. Risk factors for precipitation of AVNRT include:
- Alcohol
- Anemia
- Anxiety
- Caffeine
- Chocolate
- Fever
- Hyperthyroidism
- Hypokalemia
- Hypomagnesemia
- Hypoxia
- Myocardial ischemia
- Menstruation
- Psychological stress
- Stimulants
- Tea
- Theobromine in foods like tea, coffee and chocolate
- Theophylline
