Overview
In patients with total anomalous pulmonary venous connection, cardiac catheterization can be used as a diagnostic and therapeutic modality. However, with availability of better non-invasive tools the use of these are decreasing.
Cardiac Catheterization
Diagnostic: Cardiac catheterization may be used a diagnostic tool to assess the severity of a total anomalous pulmonary venous connection. However, due to the availability of cheaper, non-invasive diagnostic tools like echocardiography angiographies are not very frequently used as a diagnostic tool. These are used in case the echocardiographic findings are inconclusive.
Therapeutic: To create atrial septostomy (palliative)
