*History of smoking, [[allergens]], [[contact lenses]], and use of[[ retinoids]] (may provoke or exacerbate symptoms)
* Burning
*History of [[Seborrheic dermatitis]] (associated with symptoms of scalp itching, flaking, and oily skin).
*History of [[Rosacea]] (associated with a red and swollen nose (rhinophyma), facial flushing, broken and distended vessels in the face, pustules, oily skin, food and environmental intolerances, and [[eye irritation]])

You may feel like you have sand or dust in your eye when you blink. Sometimes, the eyelashes may fall out.

History

A detailed and thorough history from the patient is necessary. Specific areas of focus when obtaining a history from the patient include:

  • Symptom duration (Chronic course with intermittent exacerbations and eruptions)
  • History of smoking, allergens, contact lenses, and use ofretinoids (may provoke or exacerbate symptoms)
  • History of Seborrheic dermatitis (associated with symptoms of scalp itching, flaking, and oily skin).
  • History of Rosacea (associated with a red and swollen nose (rhinophyma), facial flushing, broken and distended vessels in the face, pustules, oily skin, food and environmental intolerances, and eye irritation)
  • History of acne or eczema

Symptoms

Symptoms of blepharitis may include the following:

  • Red eye
  • Red, swollen eyelids
  • Itchy eyelids
  • Excessive tearing
  • Gritty sensation
  • Burning sensation
  • Crusting or matting of eyelashes in the morning
  • Flaking or scaling of the eyelid skin
  • Light sensitivity
  • Blurred vision
  • Facial flushing,
