Overview

Aortitis is generally associated with rheumatologic diseases or infectious etiologies. The most common causes of aortitis are temporal arteritis and Takayasu's arteritis. Infectious aortitis most commonly presents as mycotic aneurysm and is potentially life-threatening. Aortitis may also be an incidental pathologic finding after surgery for aortic aneurysm.
