Overview
Enterovirus 68 infection presents with symptoms of an acute respiratory tract infection. The most common symptoms of this viral infection include fever, cough, dyspnea, rhinorrhea, and malaise.
History and symptoms
- The majority of people who are infected with enterovirus 68 (EV-D68) and other non-polio enteroviruses only develop mild illness.
- Patients develop symptoms of a common cold. In some cases, such as children or asthmatic patients, it may progress to a more severe respiratory infection.
- Enterovirus 68 subtype is associated with upper respiratory tract infection symptoms, such as:[1][2][3][4][5]

Less Common Symptoms
- Malaise
- Myalgia
- Headaches
- Chest pain
- Fatigue
- Diarrhea
- Irritability (neonates)
- Poor feeding (neonates)
