Medical Therapy

Supportive care[1][2]

  • There is no specific antiviral therapy indicated in patients with EV-D68 infection.
  • Most patients with uncomplicated disease may be followed-up on an outpatient basis.
  • Patients with a complicated course or severe clinical disease may be hospitalized and admitted to the regular floor or even to the intensive care unit.
  • Treatment is aimed at supportive care and prevention of complications.
  • Severe cases might require oxygen supplementation or mechanical ventilation, as needed.
