The incidence of Merkel cell carcinoma ranges from 0.15 to 0.44 per 100,000.^[1]
The incidence is thought to have tripled between 1986 and 2001.

Merkel cell cancer incidence increases progressively with age, and the median age at diagnosis is about 65 years.^[1]

Merkel cell carcinoma occurs about twice as often in males as in females.
