Overview
Mediastinitis is the inflammation or infection of the mediastinitum.[1] Although the pathogenesis of the infection remains unknown, radiographic, serologic, or histopathologic evidence of prior Histoplasma capsulatum infection, histoplasmosis, or chronic granulomatous disease is always observed. [2]
