Overview

Medulloblastoma may be classified into several subtypes based on WHO histological classification criterion (classic vs variant medulloblastoma) and molecular subtypes classification criterion (WNT subgroup vs SHH subgroup vs Group 3 medulloblastoma vs Group 4 medulloblastoma).^[1]^[2]^[3]^[4]^[5]

Classification

WHO histological classification criteria

Medulloblastoma may be classified into two subtypes based on WHO histological classification criteria which include classic medulloblastoma and variant medulloblastoma.
Other variants of medulloblastoma include desmoplastic medulloblastoma, large cell medulloblastoma, anaplastic medulloblastoma and medulloblastoma with extensive nodularity.^[4]^[5]^[2]

Molecular classification criteria

Medulloblastoma may be classified into at least four major subtypes based on molecular classification criteria which include WNT subgroup, SHH subgroup, Group C and Group D medulloblastoma.^[1]^[3]

Genomic classification criteria

WNT subgroup

Sonic hedgehog (SHH) subgroup

Group 3 medulloblastoma

Group 4 medulloblastoma
