Bladder cancer may be classified according to cell types into several subtypes: transitional cell carcinomas, squamous cell carcinomas, adenocarcinomas, small cell carcinoma, lymphoma, and sarcoma.

- Transitional cell carcinoma (more than 90%)
- Squamous cell carcinoma (2% to 7%)
- Adenocarcinoma (2%)
- Small cell carcinoma
- Lymphoma
- Sarcoma
