Gross Pathology
Characteristic findings of mesoblastic nephroma include:
- solid un-encapsulated mass
- often occurs near the renal hilum
- tends to invade the surrounding structures and renal parenchyma
- Haemorrhage and necrosis are infrequent
Microscopic Pathology
Classic
- Spindle cells in fascicles.
- Infiltrative border.
Cellular
- Plump cells with vesicular nuclei.
- Well-defined border.
- Mitotically active.
Mixed
- both classic pattern and cellular pattern areas are present.
Genetics
t(12:15)(p13;q25) ETV6/NTRK3.
