- Elderly postoperative patients
- Sever local unilateral parotid pain
- May have high fever, chills, trismus, and dysphagia
- History of dehydration or intubation

- Sudden onset of firm, tender, unilateral parotid swelling
- Hypoechogenic lesion surrounded by an irregular echogenic rim on U/S indicates abscess collection
- Polymicrobial
- Staphylococcus aureus (most commonly isolated pathogen)
