Overview
Pathogenesis
- Medulloblastoma arises from embryonal cells, which are stem cells that are normally involved in development of the fourth ventricle.[1]
Genetics
- Development of medulloblastoma is the result of multiple genetic mutations.
- Genes involved in the pathogenesis of medulloblastoma include:
- CTNNB1
- PTCH1
- MLL2
- SMARCA4
- DDX3X
- CTDNEP
- KDM6A
- TBR1
Associated Conditions
Gross Pathology
Micropathology
- On microscopic histopathological analysis, characteristic findings of medulloblastoma include:[2]
- Small round cell tumor
- Homer-Wright rosettes
- MAP2 +ve
- Synaptophysin +ve
- NSE +ve/-ve
- NF +ve/-ve
- Chromogranin +ve/-ve
- GFAP +ve/-ve
- Vimentin +ve
- Nestin +ve
- INI1 retained
