Symptoms of linitis plastica may include dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, early satiety, loss of appetite, weight loss and sometimes diarrhea.[1] A positive family history of diffuse gastric cancer may be present if it is the hereditary form of the disease.

History and symptoms

  • Diffuse gastric adenocarcinoma or linitis plastica remains asymptomatic for a long time before diagnosis. Therefore, when a patient presents with symptoms, the disease is usually in an advanced stage.[2]
  • Thickening and rigidity of the stomach wall makes the process of digestion difficult and the patient may complain of nausea, vomiting, bloating and sometimes diarrhea.
