Total gastrectomy is recommended for the management of local disease. Surgical resection is not recommended among patients with metastatic linitis plastica. [1]
Surgery
- The very fast growing nature of linitis plastica and the difficulty in diagnosing it early, makes surgical resection challenging.
- As the disease is often diagnosed at a very advanced stage, usually with metastasis from peritoneal and lymphatic spread, surgical resection is not recommended among patients with metastatic linitis plastica.[1]
- For patients with local disease, total gastrectomy along with chemotherapy and/or radiation before or following the surgery is recommended.[1]
