- Red, swollen tonsils
- Pain when swallowing
- High temperature (fever)
- Coughing

- White pus-filled spots on the tonsils
- Swollen lymph nodes (glands) in the neck
- Aching or pain in the ears or neck
- Changes to the voice or loss of voice
