Renal biopsy
A renal biopsy is not necessary for the diagnosis of diabetic nephropathy, and its usefulness in the diagnosis is still debatable. Renal biopsy is particularly useful to exclude other renal pathologies. In diabetic nephropathy, the classic finding is that of diabetic glomerulosclerosis.[1] However, there may be superimposed non-diabetic kidney disease, as well as acute tubular necrosis.[2]
