Overview
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) of synovial fluid is the test useful in the management of septic arthritis which allows more rapid or accurate diagnosis.[1]
Other Diagnostic Studies
Polymerase chain reaction of synovial fluid is useful to differentiate the causes of septic arthritis such as Borrelia sps. It is not useful to diagnose microorganism such as Staphylococcus or Streptococcal sps, but it is useful to differentiate rare causes where culture is negative or less sensitive.[2]
