Overview
Mastitis is caused by bacteria, mostly Staphylococcus aureus[1] normally found on the skin, as well as Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus, E. coli, and Mycoplasma. Mastitis can also be caused by fungi, most commonly species of Candida, that may be found in the oral cavity of the baby.
Causes
Mastitis is caused by:
- bacteria mostly Staphylococcus aureus[1] found on normal skin, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus, E. coli, and Mycoplasma.
- Fungus mostly Candida sp. that may be found in the oral cavity of the baby.
