Overview
Surgery is not the first-line treatment option for patients with adenoiditis. Adenoidectomy is usually reserved for patients with chronic persistent adenoiditis whom developed adenoid hypertrophy.
Surgery
In case of adenoid hypertrophy, adenoidectomy may be performed to remove the adenoid. Adenoidectomy has been shown to be effective independent of the size of the adenoids.[1]
adenoidectomy methods
- Adenoid curette guided by an indirect transoral mirror and a headlight; it used to be the most common one but has a high risk of recurrence unless done by a well-experienced surgeon
- Electrocautery adenoidectomy[2]
- Curved suction electrical coagulator[3]
- Curved microdebrider shaver transorally guided by a transoral indirect mirror or a 45-degree endoscope[4]
- Endoscopic-guided adenoidectomy using a classic adenoid curette.[5]
