Thyroidectomy is usually performed when the enlarged thyroid produces esophageal and tracheal compression symptoms

Surgery

Thyroidectomy is the surgical procedure performed for the enlarged thyroid usually in the following cases:

1. Thyroid nodule suspicious for malignancy on cytology
2. Cervical compression
   • Esophageal compression
   • Tracheal compression
   • Nerve compression
3. Cosmetic reasons
