Overview
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is considered the most cost effective treatment since it prevents recurrence and complications from happening in the future. On the other hand, medical dissolution therapy needs time to work effectively and therefore is considered costly.
Cost-effectiveness of Therapy
Laparscopic cholecystectomy
- It is considered cost effective since laparscopic cholecystectomy removes gallstones 99% of the time and avoids the need for prolonged hospital stays, recovery time, medical costs and future intervention.[1]
Medical dissolution therapy
- The course of therapy is often long and it can take months, and up to years to completely dissolve stones. Therefore, this treatment is considered to be expensive.
