Overview
An x-ray with barium meal may be helpful in the diagnosis of linitis plastica. Findings on an x-ray suggestive of linitis plastica include a flask shaped stomach with a narrow lumen, loss of normal mucosal folds and a lack of distensibility. Barium study may be superior to endoscopy in diagnosis.
X Ray
- An x-ray with barium meal may be helpful in the diagnosis of linitis plastica. Findings on an x-ray suggestive of linitis plastica include:[1][2]
- Leather-flask shaped stomach
- Narrow lumen
- Loss of mucosal folds
- The mucosa may be absent, distorted in some way i.e. thickened or nodular
- Lack of distensibility
