Overview
Causes
Causes
The cause of rheumatoid arthritis is idiopathic but genetic, environmental, hormonal, immunologic, infectious factors, socioeconomic, psychological, and lifestyle factors play important role in the development of rheumatoid arthritis.
- Genetic factors:[1]
- In United States, HLA-DR4 cluster(HLA-DR beta *0401, 0404, or 0405,) part of one of the peptide-binding sites of certain HLA-DR molecules associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
- In European countries, HLA-DR1 (HLA-DR beta *0101) is associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
- Infectious agents: Various infectious agents involved in rheumatoid arthritis are:[2][3]
- Mycoplasma
- Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)
- Rubella virus
- Porphyromonas gingivalis
