Discovery
- Rheumatoid arthritis signs and symptoms is noticed by Augustin Jacob Landre-Beauvais, a resident physician at the Saltpetriere asylum in France, in 1800, He named it as Goutte Asthenique Primitive or Primary Asthenic Gout.[1]
- In 1890, Archibald Garrod coined the term 'Rheumatoid arthritis'[2]
- Major histocompatibility complex (MHC class II) cell surface receptors encoded by alleles of the HLA-DR locus on chromosome 6 were first implicated in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis.[3][4]
