Overview
The lab studies conducted in patients suspected with Wilms tumor are Complete blood count (CBC), coagulation studies, Urinalysis, liver function test, serum creatinine, serum calcium and Cytogenetics studies.
Laboratory Findings
- The following lab studies are conducted in patients suspected with Wilms tumor:
- Complete blood count (CBC)
- Coagulation studies
- von Willebrand assay
- Should be performed in children with history of vascular diseases or bleeding.
- Acquired Von Willebrand's disease can be present in patients suffering from Wilms tumor.[1]
- This is done as a precaution to risk of bleeding that can occur in case of interventions done for Wilms tumor.
- von Willebrand assay
- Urinalysis
- Liver function test
- Abnormal in case of liver metastasis of Wilms tumor.
- Serum creatinine
- Should be performed before and after surgical intervention.
- Serum calcium[2]
- May be elevated in children suffering from rhabdoid tumor of kidney.
- May be elevated in children suffering from congenital mesoblastic nephroma.
- Cytogenetics studies
