Complete blood count of a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia shows lymphocytosis, anemia, and thrombocytopenia. Additional laboratory findings include elevated LDH, bilirubin, and paraproteinemia.
Laboratory Findings
- Complete blood count and differential count show:
- Serum Lactate dehydrogenase - elevated
- Serum bilirubin - elevated
- Serum immunoglobulins
- Direct antiglobulin test (DAT)
- Hypogammaglobulinemia
- Paraproteinemia
- Plasma 2 micrglobulin levels - elevated
- Peripheral blood smear may show:
- Lymphocytosis
- Smudge cells
- Large atypical cells, cleaved cells, and prolymphocytes
