Overview
- Echocardiography is critical in the diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis. Echocardiogram should be done at diagnosis and routinely thereafter to monitor response to therapy.
Echocardiography/Ultrasound
- Findings on echocardiography suggestive of amyloidosis include:[1][2][3]
- Sparkling or speckled appearance of the LV thickening
- Hypertrophied right ventricle
- Diastolic dysfunction with restrictive filling pattern (in the advanced stages)
- Severe atrial dilatation
- Thickening of the interatrial septum
- Pericardial effusion
- Prominent valves
