Overview
CT scan is useful in detecting metastasis to organs and regional lymph nodes in merkel cell carcinoma
Key CT findings in Merkel cell cancer
- CT scan of the chest and abdomen may use to detect merkel cell carcinoma metastasis.
- CT scan of the abdomen may shows the following:[1][2][3][4]
- Retroperitoneal and peripancreatic adenopathy
- Involvement of the lower left anterior chest wall
- Involvement of the ribs
- Involvement of the gut
- CT scan of the head and neck may be also used to find merkel cell carcinoma that has spread to regional lymph nodes.
- CT scan of the head may demonstrates a soft-tissue nodule in merkel cell carcinoma.
