Electrocardiogram
An ECG may be helpful in the diagnosis of Friedreich's ataxia. Findings on an ECG suggestive of Friedreich's ataxia include:[1][2][3][4][5][6]
- T-wave repolarization abnormalities, especially in the inferior and lateral leads, is the most common abnormalities seen on the electrocardiogram (ECG) of patients with Friedreich's ataxia(approximately 85%).
- Bundle branch blocks is found in 15% of patients with Friedreich's ataxia
- Ventricular hypertrophy, or right axis deviation
- Short PR interval in up to 24% of patients
- Interatrial block in up to 48% of patients
- Left atrial enlargement
- Right atrial enlargement
