Causes
Eisenmenger syndrome is caused by a defect in the heart, which allows oxygenated blood to flow back into the pulmonary circulation, instead of going out to the systemic circulation. Cardiac defects that can lead to Eisenmenger's syndrome include:
- Atrioventricular canal defect
- Atrial septal defect
- Cyanotic heart disease
- Patent ductus arteriosus
- Truncus arteriosus
