Acute Kidney Injury

Overview

Acute kidney injury (AKI) or acute renal failure (ARF), is characterized by a rapid reduction of the renal filtration function, which is identified by a rise in serum creatinine concentration.

Historical Perspective

Classification

  • Acute kidney injury is classified into three main groups:
    1. Prerenal
    2. Renal
    3. Postrenal
