Overview
Findings on chest x-ray suggestive of myocarditis include cardiomegaly, cephalization of the pulmonary vessels and, Kerley B-lines in presence of heart failure pericardial thickening in presence of pericarditis, pulmonary edema, and pleural effusion.
X Ray
A chest x-ray may be helpful as an initial test in the diagnosis of myocarditis. Findings on an x-ray suggestive of myocarditis include:[1][2][3]
- Cardiomegaly associated with cardiac failure
- Cephalization of the pulmonary vessels
- Kerley B-lines
- Most often normal cardiac silhouette
- Pericardial thickening in presence of pericarditis
- Pulmonary edema
- Pleural effusion
