Overview
Diarrhea is a common symptom in many childhood conditions.
Differential Diagnosis
- Altered mental status - Central Nervous System infection, sepsis [1]
- Bilious vomiting - bowel obstruction
- Blood or mucus in the stool - inflammatory bowel disease
- Shortness of breath - pneumonia
- Fever (especially if with nausea and vomiting) - otitis media or urinary tract infection
- Abdominal pain, rebound tenderness - appendicitis or other surgical causes
- Neck stiffness - mengingitis
- Rash- Toxic Shock syndrome
