Overview
CT scan is not routinely performed for diagnosis of tracheitis as bronchoscopy is preferred for direct visualization of the trachea. CT scan with contrast will show enhancement of the irregularity of the trachea wall, likely resulting from exudative membranes in the trachea. In case of recurrent episodes of tracheitis CT scan may be performed to assess the presence and severity of tracheal stenosis. [1]
CT scan
- CT scan with contrast shows irregular thickening of the tracheal wall.[2]
- Ct scan shows tracheal stenosis if repeated episodes of tracheitis have occurred.[3]
- Tracheal obstruction because of pseudomembranes [4]
