Her body undergoes many physiological and psychological changes during pregnancy and childbirth; a causal relationship between hormone changes and mood shifts has been proposed. During the postpartum period, women face many depressive symptoms which varies in severity from mild postpartum blues to serious mood disorders like postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis. Identification and treatment of these mood disorders is critical to both child and mother's health.
