Overview
PCR
Polymerase chain reaction is a reliable and fast method for the identification and characterization of clinical isolates of S. aureus in real-time. Real-time PCR and Quantitative PCR and are increasingly being employed in clinical laboratories.[1][2]
PCR can be used to detect the mecA gene, which mediates oxacillin resistance in staphylococci.
