Founded in 1979, the American Society for Cytotechnology is a professional organization dedicated to the field of cytotechnology. According to the association's website, the ASCT promotes cytotechnology by:
- Developing practice standards;
- Monitoring and evaluating legislative/regulatory issues and emerging technologies affecting the profession; and
- Providing unique, practical educational opportunities pertinent to the practice of cytotechnology.[1]
