Overview
Medical Therapy
- Proton pump inhibitors: (such as omeprazole and lansoprazole) and histamine H2-receptor antagonists (such as famotidine and ranitidine) are used to slow down acid secretion. Usual drugs include esomeprazole (Nexium), lansoprazole (Prevacid), pantoprazole (Protonix) and omeprazole (Prilosec).
- Chemotherapy: For those the tumor can not be surgically removed, chemotherapy is available. The drugs include streptozotocin (Zanosar), 5-fluorouracil (Adrucil) and doxorubicin (Doxil).
- Octreotide can be used to slow down acid secretion.
