Laboratory Findings

Common lab tests that are required for evaluating a patient with Alstrom syndrome include:

  • Fasting blood glucose
  • Glucose tolerance test
  • Plasma insulin - hyperinsulinemia may be present
  • Fasting lipid profile - hypertriglyceridemia may be present
  • Thyroid function tests like TSH, free T4
  • Blood pituitary hormone levels
  • Urinalysis in symptomatic patients
  • Blood urea, BUN, lectrolytes - may reveal renal failure
  • Liver function tests like ALT, AST, GGT
