Sinus arrhythmia is a variation, either increase or decrease, of the heart rate due to changes in the sinus node.  An increase or a decrease in the heart rate caused by alterations in the [[sinus node]] is termed [[sinus tachycardia]] and [[sinus bradycardia]] respectively.  A subtype of sinus arrhythmia is [[respiratory sinus arrhythmia]] which refers to the normal slowing down of [[heart rate]] during [[expiration]] (breathing out) and speeding up of heart rate during [[inspiration]].

Overview

Sinus arrhythmia is a variation, either an increase or a decrease, of the heart rate due to changes in the sinus node. An increase or a decrease in the heart rate caused by alterations in the sinus node is termed sinus tachycardia and sinus bradycardia respectively. A subtype of sinus arrhythmia is respiratory sinus arrhythmia which refers to the normal slowing down of heart rate during expiration and speeding up of heart rate during inspiration.
