Overview
Following the introduction of radial percutaneous coronary intervention (r-PCI) in 1989 by Canadian Cardiologist, Lucian Campeau,[1] there have been a gradual increase in its preference over the femoral approach internationally;[2] with the United States experiencing a 10-fold increase (1 in every 6 PCIs perfromed) in the adoption of transradial procedures between 2007 and 2012,[3] largely as a result of reduced major bleeding and vascular complications, reduced length of hospital stay and cost and increased patient satisfaction and quality of care.
