Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the most common etiology of end-stage-renal-disease (ESRD) and dialysis in the Western world, accounting for approximately 30-45% of all cases of ESRD. Blacks, Hispanics, and Native Americans are at increased risk of developing DN. Advanced age in type II diabetes and diagnosis at younger age in type I diabetes are significantly associated with DN. There seems to be a familial predisposition to DN. | |||
