Overview
Medical Therapy
The goal of treatment in hepatitis D is the clearance of the HDV and of the hepatitis B helper virus. The complexity of the treatment resides in the need to address two viruses, and in the simplicity of the HDV, which limits the number of targets for therapeutic agents.
Monitoring HDV RNA and serological levels of HBsAg may help in management of these patients.[1]
Follow-up for 6months may be recommended in these patients to evaluate for the development of chronic HBV and HDV infection.
