Children with moderate and heavy intensity hookworm infections include:

• impaired growth
• deficits in intellectual and cognitive development.

Women especially pregnant infected with hookworms include:

• severe anemia
• increased maternal morbidity and mortality
• premature birth
• neonatal anemia
