Overview
Antimicrobial therapy is the mainstay of therapy for atypical pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma. Pharmacologic therapies for Mycoplasma pneumonia include either macrolides for 2-5 days, doxycycline for 14 days, or second generation quinolones for 14 days. Supportive therapy includes rest, adequate fluid intake, and administration of either non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) or acetaminophen if needed. Aspirin should be avoided among children.

Antimicrobial Regimen
All patients diagnosed with Mycoplasma pneumonia are treated with antimicrobial therapy.

- Preferred regimen (1): Azithromycin 500 mg PO qd on day 1 and 250 mg PO qd on days 2 to 5
- Preferred regimen (2): Clarithromycin 500 mg PO qd for 14 days
- Preferred regimen (3): Moxifloxacin 400 mg PO qd for 14 days
- Preferred regimen (4): Levofloxacin 750 mg PO qd for 14 days
- Alternative regimen : Doxycycline 100 mg PO bid for 14 days
