Overview

Ependymomas accounts for about 5% of adult intracranial gliomas and about 9% of childhood tumors of the central nervous system (CNS).

Epidemiology and Demographics

Incidence

• Childhood Ependymoma represents about 200 cases per year in the United States.

Age

• Their occurrence seems to peak at age 5 years and then again at age 35.
• Subependymoma usually affects people over 40 years of age.

Gender

• Subependymoma more often affects men than women.
