Overview

Laboratory findings consistent with the diagnosis of pituitary adenoma include elevated serum prolactin level and elevated or decreased serum level of other pituitary hormones.==Laboratory Findings==

• Laboratory studies are important in the diagnosis of pituitary adenoma, abnormal findings may include:

• Elevated or decreased level of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)
• Elevated or decreased level of growth hormone (GH)
• Elevated prolactin
• Elevated or decreased level of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)
• Elevated or decreased level of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)
• Elevated or decreased level of luteinizing hormone (LH)

• Some adenomas secrete more than one hormone, the most common combination being growth hormon and prolactin.
