Overview
Cholesterolosis of gallbladder is characterized by mucosal villous hyperplasia with excessive accumulation of cholesterol esters within epithelial macrophages. It is usually clinically silent, but the condition is rarely associated with biliary symptoms or idiopathic pancreatitis and cannot be reliably detected by ultrasonography.
